우리가 살고 있는 곳은 넓은 배인가 끝없이 드넓은 육지인가?
자기자신을 돌아볼 겨를도 없이 바쁘게만 살아오다 문득 내가 있는 곳이 어디인가라는 질문을 던진다. 내가 지금까지 살아온 것이 아주 넓은 배인지 육지 인지 다람쥐 쳇바퀴처럼 살아온 인생에게는 어려운 문제이다. 마치 지금 사는 것이 전부인 것처럼 살아온 사람에게 자신이 살아온 터전이 아주 큰 배이고 이제 그 큰 배가 침몰하고 있는 것이라면 이 것을 어떻게 받아 들이고 어떻게 벗어날 것인가? 그 좁고 좁은 견식과 경험과 우매함에 경의를 표한다.

어떤 사람이 있다. 이 사람은 태어나서 지금까지 옆으로만 걸었다. 이젠 앞으로 걷는 것 보다는 옆으로 걷는 것이 훨씬 더 편하다. 인생이란 길고 긴 길에서 잠깐의 편의를 위해서 과연 자신이 편하고 익숙한 횡보를 할 수 있는 것을 찾아서 계속 떠나는 것이 좋은가 아니면 이제는 정도를 걸어서 힘들더라도 바로 걷는 연습을 하며 앞으로 걸어가는 것이 좋은가...

삶이란 길고 꾸준한 일상의 연속이다. 여기에서 육지를 찾아 떠나느냐? 바로 걷는 방법을 찾아 나서느냐는 그 삶을 살아가는 사람의 선택인 것이다. 당신은 어떤 삶을 지금껏 살아왔고 또 어떤 삶을 앞으로 살아나갈 것인가?
